Our Story

The founders of Spectrum Artworx, Tom Butler, Jake Hampson, and Malia Hampson, all love and have a passion for creating art and crafts with their skills. Jake Hampson, a graduate of Western Oregon University, saw a lack of art supplies in Monmouth and wanted to change that. Malia Hampson and Tom Butler agreed to join in that venture and they worked to set up Spectrum Artworx.

Tom Butler owned Flying Eagle Gallery, an art supply and custom framing store in Thermopolis, Wyoming. A graduate of Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, he was invited to join his fellow graduates, Malia and Christian Hampson, in this venture.

Jake Hampson graduated from Western Oregon University, where he took many creative writing and creative arts classes. During his time there, he fell in love with printmaking, and seeing no local public studio for it, Jake wanted to change that.

Malia Hampson has been crafting and learning her form of creative endeavors through classes and experimentation. She saw how the lack of supplies required travel for local artists and agreed that a change needed to happen.

Spectrum Artworx’s goal is to provide a space for artists and makers to create art and projects with access to unavailable supplies and materials. Tom, Jake, and Malia hope to offer their various skills to the community to help develop creativity in Monmouth, Oregon.
